Dear Clare and Gladwin County residents,

I am working hard to become your next District Judge.  I look forward to speaking with you in 2008 and invite you to learn a little more about Josh Farrell.

Background

I believe our district deserves a judge who is motivated about the position and willing to work hard for its residents. These principles were instilled in me as a child growing up on a dairy farm. I participated in 4-H and athletics as a youth and began working at an early age. My employment ranged from farm work to fast food to concrete construction. But throughout my life the legal profession always interested me. I practically have the law in my blood. I have two uncles and a mother-in-law who are attorneys. My wife of 11 years, Tricia (Ulicki) Farrell, even has a criminal justice degree from Central Michigan University. Tricia and I were married by current District Judge Gary J. Allen at our home with family and friends.

Education

I believe in the importance of education and feel our district deserves a judge who has the education necessary for the position. I am proud to have a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. During my last term of law school I had the privilege of completing my externship with Richard S. Allen, a well-experienced attorney in our district. I remain involved in the education field having been an adjunct instructor at Mid Michigan Community College for the last six years teaching criminal evidence to prospective police officers. In addition to teaching I attend continuing education seminars in my fields of practice and have spoken to high school students in the area about the legal profession.

Legal/Business Experience

I believe a Judge must not only possess legal experience but also have good business sense during difficult economic times. Our district deserves a Judge who can operate a financially responsible court. In addition to running a successful law practice I am also the owner of another business, Mid Michigan Title Insurance. I have provided representation to clients in many legal areas, including criminal matters, real estate, family law, business law, wills, drivers license appeals and civil suits. I am a member of the Michigan State Bar and the Clare-Gladwin Board of Realtors.

“People’s Judge”

Above all I believe I will be what our district deserves the most: a “People’s Judge”. I believe a judge must possess the personality, demeanor and temperament to interact with all residents of our district in and out of the courtroom. Each case that a Judge hears brings different people under different circumstances. A Judge should be able to adapt from case to case and be respectful of the person’s situation. A Judge must be able to work with all of the personnel within the Court system. A Judge must be “in touch” with other branches of the judicial system, namely the Prosecutor and police agencies. A Judge must be open to new procedures, methods and technologies if either will improve the system. Finally, a Judge must be involved and approachable in the community. I pride myself on being a “people person” in everything I do. I treat people with courtesy and respect regardless of their age, race, gender, occupation or financial status.

I look forward to meeting with you this year and welcome any support and
feedback you might offer.
